James just moved from B.C. to a school in Ontario. As a grade 8 student, moving half way through a school year, he's having a hard time adjusting to all this change. He feels the reasons for his move are private, and he's not comfortable discussing them with anyone, but people keep asking about it. He feels like after the first two weeks in his new class he doesn't want to be friends with anyone. His teacher, along with the work being assigned, seems so different from what he was doing out west. James is becoming very stressed out. Just recently, he verbally abused his bus driver on his way to school and was given a suspension.
James is a grade 8 student, who moved to a new tow and had to go to a new school. He was a very stressed trying to cope with the new work, and new people at his school. He was so stressed he verbally abused his bus driver and got suspended.
A strategy James could use would be to talk. To talk about his stress with someone he trusts. Talking helps most people with mental health. When you have a mental illness and you don't talk, you keep everything inside and all your emotions just bottle up waiting to explode on someone, like James did to his bus driver. It's a good idea to talk because it will take some of the stress away.
What do you think causes people to have a mental illness?
